It is so awesome to have our Autodesk Portland office be nominated and get an honorable mention in an “Innovation by Design” award for the workplace. We got edged out by Amazon’s Seattle office crazy spheres but then again Amazon offices were designed by another Autodesk customer NBBJ using our products. We moved in just this spring to the building and have more to do in the second phase starting next month. We absolutely love the historic renovated Towne Storage building!

One person missing on this new office project that deserves a great deal of credit is Beth Trakimas. Beth was then with Autodesk HR and engaged the management and employees to make sure that employees had a voice in the relocation and new office. Employees were relocating from about 10 miles away and that caused a great deal of change to their lives and especially to some of their commutes. Beth helped facilitate the communication between the design team, site leadership, and a core employee move committee that were working with employees on their teams. Having been on this team I can tell you there were many concerns and challenges and Beth did an amazing job meeting the needs of all parties. Another huge thanks goes to Brian Repp who was another employee making sure that employee feedback was incorporated.
If you are making a big change to your employees by moving them to a new office, I would suggest to consider involving them in the entire process and act on their feedback. Be transparent, listen, inclusive and you will have happier employees and a better workplace. Our new office screams Portland and our employees style and a pleasure to work in and hear all the positive comments from other employees and visitors when they see the office for the first time. I hope we do this for every office relation in the future as it worked for us in Portland.

This new Autodesk Portland office is amazing, but the people inside that make it even more special of a workplace.
