For those in the US that have access to a TV with the History Channel, there is a television series named Project Impossible that Autodesk helped sponsor showing our customers as well as some Autodesk employees on some large projects. The series celebrates the engineers, builders and construction professionals that are transforming our world.
Project Impossible is an original 10-part series that follows a new generation of epic engineering projects that were considered unthinkable just a few years ago. In partnership with Autodesk, each episode is a deep look into the ambitious projects transforming our world, and highlights the people, tools, and technological breakthroughs critical to their success. The series starts September 1st,2018 so please check your local listings for times.
These projects include the Iqaluit Airport, Lightning Motorcycles, CyArk who completed a scan of Mt. Rushmore, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Smart Hydro Power, Wilshire Grand, Factum-Arte, London Underground Mail Rail and Crossrail, and the Hyperloop, and many more.
Autodesk employees including myself participated in one episode where we were capturing the internal and external of the Glen Canyon Dam with the US Bureau of Reclamation in 3D using LiDAR, SONAR, and photogrammetry from helicopter and drones. It was a Dam big project <drum snap>. I don't think the Glen Canyon Dam segment will be shown on this weekend, possibly because it is too Dam good. Here is a past blog post highlighting the project overview. There is a large article on this project coming soon to tell the story of the Glen Canyon Dam reality capture project.
If you have time give the new series a watch and spread the word. It is always amazing seeing what our customers and partners are doing.
