Helping Friends Affected by Hurricane Harvey
28 August 2017
You may have seen the news of the large Hurricane Harvey that hit the Gulf Coast of Texas this weekend bringing winds around 150mph and 20+ inches of rain causing flooding.
If you want to help, a trustworthy non-profit and in the area now assisting residents is the Red Cross. Be on guard for the flood of scams that unfortunately try to capitalize on the good intentions of people helping disasters that never gets to those affected.

It’s heartbreaking to see this affect so many people, but each of us can help in our own ways.
Drone/UAS pilots:
Please do not fly in the storm area as that affects rescue and relief operations. I know some want to help in disasters by flying their drone, but only SAR specialized and approved flights that are in communication with FEMA/FAA/ and State agencies can help while non approved can stop all rescue and relief operations impacting peoples lives. Please don't fly in the disaster/fire/controlled airspace, or areas with TFRs, be responsible and don't affect others.
