The Smithsonian X 3D Conference with limited free registration so if you intend to be there you had better hurry and register. There will be amazing agenda of presenters and presentations on how 3D will transform museums and research institutions around the world. The Smithsonian X 3D Conference will be held on November 13th and 14th, 2013 in Washington DC as well as a possible webcast.
Autodesk is a very proud sponsoring partner for this special event. I will be attending and also hold a meetup on the Friday November 15th for those that wish to join me for discussing 3D, Autodesk products and technologies as well as exploring the Smithsonian and some DC landmarks. Having visited several of the Smithsonian museums in Washington DC, I can tell you it is truly amazing to see in person and free admission. Perhaps I can encourage some of the members of the Smithsonian's laser cowboys and Autodesk Reality Capture Team to join us for a great discussion.
For the first time ever, state-of-the-art 3D scanning and image-based modeling technology paired with new Smithsonian tools will enable museum collections, scientific specimens, and entire research sites to be digitally recorded, studied, and shared in immersive detail.
- Researchers and conservators can use 3D capture to document and analyze a single artifact or an entire field site
- Curators and educators can use 3D imagery to explore complex ideas and share new discoveries
- Teachers, collaborators, and members of the public can interact with Smithsonian museum objects in new ways
