TeknoChronicles of Z Does BIM

The TeknoChronicles of Z Episode 7 “Sweatin' the Details” is now available on the AutoCAD Exchange.

“Uh oh. The zipper on TJ's TeknoTard is stuck. But Z is more focused on designing cool skyboxes for a new stadium. So of course, he's implemented a BIM process with Autodesk Revit at the core, and he's using AutoCAD to extend the power of BIM. Good for the stadium design. Bad for TJ. “

TeknoChronicles of Z Episode 3 "Supply Chained"

A new episode of the TeknoChronicles of Z has been posted on the AutoCAD Exchange as well as YouTube. This is the third episode and titled “Supply Chained”. Take a break and watch this video to get a mid-week laugh.

If you have not been following the funny series The TeknoChronicles of Z it might help to catch up on these short fun videos from Autodesk. Don't forget to enter the General ShadowFinger’s Benign Design contest in 3D for some great prizes but valid for US contestants most likely due to some evil TeknoLawyer.

You can follow The TeknoChronicles of Z at the AutoCAD Exchange Community (http://autocad.autodesk.com), http://www.teknochroniclesofz.com/, or even on YouTube.

Tell Us Your AutoCAD Story, Get a FREE Video Camera

Flip Camera Yes, we are giving away free video cameras. The only catch is you need to email a request outlining what you would create a video of and be a user of AutoCAD.

The AutoCAD team wants to see and hear your stories.  We’re giving away FREE Flip Video Cameras to selected people that have an AutoCAD story to tell.  In return, we just ask you to send us a couple of minutes of video (using your new camera) showing us your AutoCAD story.  What kind of story?  That’s up to you.  Mostly, we want to hear how AutoCAD has changed your life, see some cool projects you designed with AutoCAD…that sort of thing.  Be funny, be creative, or be inspiring.  But mostly, just be you.  We’re going to feature a bunch of your videos on the AutoCAD website – it’s going to be fun to see the great things you all do with AutoCAD.

Perhaps a video detailing how many years you have been using AutoCAD and your memories, your workflow, your party invitations that you designed in AutoCAD 2.18, your tricks, your project highlights, or perhaps if you are like me a story about how AutoCAD has changed your life or business or how many kinds of tricks you had played on your fellow AutoCAD users.

To be considered for a free video camera, email autocad.video@autodesk.com.  In the email you must detail who you are, what you do, and what you would record in your AutoCAD video, The number of cameras are limited so be sure to be creative and detailed in your request.

Be funny, be creative, be inspiring --- be yourself!

Cheers,
Shaan

AutoCAD 2009 on Jay Leno's Garage website

image Whoa, I just got a call from Jay Leno today telling me that the AutoCAD video was up on his website www.jaylenosgarage.com. This was a short fun web video segment we shot while I and fellow Autodesker Marie Domingo were down in Los Angeles visiting Jay's staff at the super cool garage facility housing one of the most impressive car collections in the world. In the video segment one of Jay's master of all things Jim and I were discussing a common use in their facility for AutoCAD to create replacement parts for the auto collection as most collection auto's replacement parts are not stock parts when Jay breaks one. ;-)
AutoCAD is a very flexible Computer Aided Design "CAD" product allowing it to be used in many different ways and industries. We also have industry specific products such as Autodesk Inventor, Revit, etc at Autodesk but for many of the parts and needs of Jay Leno's Garage AutoCAD fits perfectly. Jay and his staff were awesome and the collection of cars was absolutely amazing. Before seeing Jay's car collection I thought Stanley Steamer was only a carpet cleaning company not a turn of the century steam powered vehicle which Jay had a couple of originals.

See the video below of Jim and I discussing AutoCAD use at Jay Leno's Garage!

I have some pretty cool other things in the works after my sabbatical as well as presentations and Q&A at AUGI CAD Camp June 11th 2008 in Phoenix Arizona and San Antonio and Austin Texas User Group meetings.

Shaan

Jay Leno's Green Garage

See Jay Leno's solar and wind system for his car garage in the embedded video below or at www.jaylenosgarage.com. I got the rare opportunity to visit with Jay and his team a couple weeks ago in his secret car collection buildings and it was unbelievable to say the least.

I recently provided some AutoCAD 2009 upgrade training to Jay's team who use Autodesk products like AutoCAD and even Autosketch in the designing one off replacement parts for Jay's world class car collection when Jay breaks them. I got to reverse engineer a Model T Ford bearing cap in 3D while there. I met some of the worlds most experienced and knowledgeable engineers, car lovers, and top notch fabricators in his shop. This is also where I met the legendary Eddie Paul who is a legend in metal fabrication and designing cars for the movies, mechanical sharks, new types of motors and just about everything else using AutoCAD 2009 and 3ds Max and soon Autodesk Inventor.

Jay Leno's Hydrogen Fuel Cell SUV GM YukonI even got a slick ride back to my hotel in Jay's hydrogen cell powered GM SUV which runs on hydrogen. I would love to have a hydrogen powered vehicle but with only 40 of them made so far they run about 1 million dollars so the price needs to come down to an affordable level.
One funny thing I found out is Jay is a happy mouse clicker on a computer "click" "click" "click" "click" when only one click was needed. He is a very down to earth guy off camera and like myself he does not sleep much and is always going.

Catching Up After almost 2 weeks in San Rafael

AutodeskI have been in San Rafael and San Francisco California for most of the past 2 weeks. I had many meetings and some management training to attend. I got to see a bunch of coworkers I have not seen in sometime as well which was a bonus. I also stayed with a good friend and spent the evenings talking, BBQ'ing, and seeing old places as I used to live in the Bay area. It was nice seeing the area and friends but the traffic is even worse...I even video taped one commute to later speed up to a Caffeine Commute (6x speed) to the Autodesk office like I have done in a video from back in 2004 "Have I Snapped? Updated 6-22-04".

I took quite a few photos in the Bay Area and some are getting quite the recognition. You are free to use the images personally. The sizes are large enough even for dual monitors or large screen background displays. I know quite a few have used my scorpion under UV light photo as a screen background or various Utah desert images.

Jason Pratt's YouTube'd Tutorial on AutoCAD Layouts and Publish

New YouTube video: How to use Layouts and Publish in AutoCAD
2 parts.

Actually despite Jason's reservations his voice was not all that bad although you could tell he was in a empty office. I liked that he did not have a mono toned boring tutorial voice and it did not at all seem canned or over prepared  as it was a freestyle demo for fun and benefit of others.

The only content remark I would mention is that I noticed is Jason did not show you can hide (default) the Layout tabs and now with AutoCAD 2008 even reorder them and rename them as you would a Excel spreadsheet tab (wicked cool).

Keep those tutorials coming Jason and others feel free to join in and share a tutorial with others. I did post on YouTube the When Stupid Tourists Attack" Kangaroo video with that awful background music sung by Scott Sheppard of the blog http://labs.blogs.com/.

Shaan
