The New Autodesk Impression 3 is Now Available for Download

I just found Autodesk Impression 3 on the Autodesk Subscription Center for download by Autodesk Subscription customers. Autodesk Impression 3 beta testers for project Corradino on Autodesk MyFeedback will receive a copy of it as thanks for their feedback and participation.

I mentioned Autodesk Impression 3 not too long ago showing off my simple Koi pond design.

Below is my simple koi pond design in Autodesk Impression 3. I was able to import the pond layout from a DWG file from AutoCAD 2010. One of the time savers is the DWG file for the pond I used changes (we all know projects change several times) all I do is select Update and my 2D rendering is updated to reflect the changes with the styles applied. It does not force you to start from scratch again like a photo raster editing application would.

Some of the high level improvements in this new release:

• Adaptive Gradients - Cool!
• Layer Enhancements - Like the new drop-down list with layer tools added to the Layers palette toolbar.
• Style Books
• Color Books - RAL Added and Pantone updated.
• Style Library Wizard
• Global Style Controls - Like rotate
• Block Improvements - Including the ability to create a new block from a selection by right-click. And you can use the ‘B’ key to create a new block. and being able to easily identify blocks.
• 2010 DWG file formats

• Fortified with 12 essential vitamins and minerals completing a fun and well balanced breakfast.

For those interested in Autodesk trivia for project codenames, Corradino was named after Corradino D'Ascanio who invented the first helicopter.

I love Autodesk Impression and have shown it around the world and heard many ooohs and ahhhs. Many I spoke with stated they can get their individual style back into the project design phase and provide an alternative look to a photo realistic rendering. In many cases you cannot distinguish a hand rendering from one in Autodesk Impression unless of course you are looking at the billable hours to create it as Autodesk Impressions' goal was to take a several day process and reduce it to around 20 minutes.

AutoCAD 2010 Language Packs German and French Available

AutoCAD 2010 language packs are now available for download from the Autodesk Subscription Center. This is new, in the past you had to install a complete single language version an may have had to create multiple language deployment images. Now you create one deployment image with the language packs in it.

Currently there is French, and German language packs for the 32-bit and 64-bit AutoCAD 2010. More languages will be available shortly.The language packs are not a full install image.

If you need to provide AutoCAD to users in one or more languages, you can download language packs from the Autodesk Subscription Center to the installer that will allow you to deploy the product in the languages you need to support.

Language packs can only be included in an administrative image during the creation of the deployment. When creating the deployment image (standalone or network licensed) you select the MSI for the language pack downloaded from the Autodesk Subscription Center. In my case I downloaded the AutoCAD 2010 German Language Pack.

Creating the multi language AutoCAD Deployment Image:

When I was creating the deployment image I selected the “Add Language” option and then browsed to where I extracted the German language pack and selected the MSI.

 

Now when users install from this admin image they would then have the choice to install the English or German AutoCAD 2010.

Creating the multi language AutoCAD Standalone:

I can also do standalone installation from the DVD with another language. You can place the language pack on the local machine or a network location and then a user can point to the language pack and add the language to their installation.

 

You can only install within language families currently. This means that customers in the Americas wouldn’t be able to download a Japanese language pack and customers in Japan wouldn’t be able to download Traditional Chinese. Currently there is no EMEA European subscription customer support for language packs.

Did You Know You Can Download Autodesk Product Upgrades on the Autodesk Subscription Center

Did you know this ability to download Autodesk products (electronic fulfillment) Autodesk by Autodesk Subscription customers already exists? I just found out about it and Autodesk Subscription customers should have received an email around February 24th on this. Autodesk Subscription Software Coordinators, Contract Managers and users with approved download rights can download Autodesk 2009 products in multiple languages now from the Subscription Center.

 

When the 2010 products begin shipping your Autodesk Subscription Software Coordinator for your Autodesk Subscription should receive an email containing your serial and product key and details on download or requesting a DVD.

You have the option to download and select DVD media. when you request the physical DVD media you get the full shipping product package not just a plain DVD in a envelope.

Where can you find these electronic fulfillment downloads? Go to the Subscription Center and login.You must have permissions for downloads from your Autodesk Subscription Software Coordinator who manages Autodesk Subscription for your company. When logged in select the Downloads menu item and then Launch Electronic Fulfillment.

That's it, instant product upgrade gratification without the need for waiting on a delivery person and box to arrive at your door.

AutoCAD 2009 Bonus Pack 2 - PDF Output Quality Improvements and File Size Reductions

In addition to the ability to now use a PDF underlay in AutoCAD 2009 so that you can reference and snap to vector geometry there were other PDF enhancements. One of the big enhancements was PDF output quality and file size reductions.

File Size of PDFs Reduced:

Tests using the AutoCAD Sample DWG Willhome.dwg
AutoCAD 2009 PDF = 2.697 MB
AutoCAD 2009 with Bonus Pack 2 PDF = 249 KB 
90.8% reduction in size

Test using a gradient test drawing:
AutoCAD 2009 PDF = 31.697 MB
AutoCAD 2009 with Bonus Pack 2 PDF =867 KB
97.3% reduction in size

We were even smaller than the PDF solution AcroPlot and Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 without compromising quality! With the smaller file sizes you get much faster opening of the PDF files.

Some of the other enhancements:

• Exporting layers into PDF so they can be turned on or off in a PDF viewer.
• Embedding some fonts into the PDF so that you can search for text strings in a PDF viewer.
• Better quality and visual fidelity.
• Support line merging.

While PDF is still not as well suited for electronic vector based design documents as the DWF format is, PDF export in the AutoCAD Bonus Pack 2 has been substantially improved for those that must use the PDF format.

The Bonus Packs are planned to be incorporated into future releases of AutoCAD, but for the current time they are available and use by AutoCAD Subscription customers from the Autodesk Subscription website.

The second and third in a series of new feature AutoCAD Subscription Bonus Packs are being released to the Autodesk Subscription website.

If you install all three Subscription Bonus Packs your Subscription toolbar in AutoCAD 2009 will appear like the below.

 

AutoCAD 2009 Subscription Bonus Pack 1 Released in June 2008

The first AutoCAD 2009 Subscription Bonus Pack provides many useful AUGI (Autodesk User Group International) functionality requests, including:

• You can measure the distance, radius, angle, area, and volume of selected objects or a sequence of points.
• SPLINE to PLINE
• Reverse PLINE edit
• Rotating viewport and have the view rotate with the viewport
• Erase unreferenced unnamed objects including PURGE 0-length objects like blank spaces in text etc.

Bonus Pack 2 the PDF Bonus Pack.

 
AutoCAD 2009 Subscription Bonus Pack 2 delivers exciting new PDF enhancements.

PDF Underlays
Now you can import PDF files, attaching them as PDF underlays. Once you attach a PDF underlay, you can use a variety of tools to snap to lines and objects, control the display of layers, move, scale, rotate, and clip the PDF underlay.

PDF Output
Key improvements have been made for publishing PDF files. File sizes have been reduced, making it easier to share designs. TrueType font support has been added, giving you control over precisely how your fonts are displayed.

Bonus Pack 3 the 3D Printing Bonus Pack.

The ability to prepare and print a 3D model to an online service and get back a 3D print of the model. I have produced several of these as have other customers and employees. From 3D architectural plans to mechanical parts.

 

I even printed the laser scanned model of the infamous Matt Murphy Clay Head Sculpture to preserve it from further damage during its travels around the world including both China and Japan over the past 2 weeks. I hope to retire it at AU in Vegas soon.

Since they were just released after beta testing at http://myfeedback.autodesk.com it may take a few days for them to appear on the Autodesk Subscription website.

New Blog Banner Done in Autodesk Impression

  Look Up!

I figured for creating a new blog banner to eat our own Autodesk dog food and use Autodesk Impression. Dogfooding is the practice of using your own technology. It was easier than using Photoshop and ended up with the authentic look complete complete with a coffee cup stain on the blueprint. I have not manually drafted or used a stinking anhydrous ammonia spewing blueline machine in over 15 –20 years but it was a nostalgic play on the blogs name Between the Lines. Autodesk Impression 2 is available to Autodesk Subscription customers now.

AutoCAD 2009 Subscription Bonus Pack 1 Released

Autodesk Subscription customers today can download the new Autodesk Subscription Bonus Pack 1 for AutoCAD 2009. This Bonus Pack can be downloaded via the Subscription Center. This Subscription Bonus Pack is currently available in English for the 32-bit and 64bit AutoCAD 2009. The download is about 80MB.

AutoCAD 2009 Subscription Bonus Pack – Customer Wishlist Enhancements
Extend the capability of AutoCAD® 2009 with this bonus pack that offers some highly requested AUGI wishlist items before the next AutoCAD release.

The AutoCAD 2009 Subscription Bonus Pack provides many useful AUGI (Autodesk User Group International) functionality requests, including:

• New measurement capabilities You can measure the distance, radius, angle, area, and volume of selected objects or a sequence of points.

• SPLINE to PLINE

• Reverse PLINE edit

• Rotating viewport and have the view rotate with the viewport

• Erase unreferenced unnamed objects including PURGE 0-length objects like blank spaces in text etc.

The following commands and system variables have been added or updated for AutoCAD 2009 Subscription Bonus Pack 1:
