AutoCAD 2004 SP1 Being re-released

There was an initial problem with a plot driver with the first Service Pack for AutoCAD 2004 which caused some problems in plot quality on HP devices. We worked non-stop to fix the problem the same day and will be releasing it to the web later today. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. If you installed the first SP1, you will be able to install the new Service Pack over the already installed one.

Sincerely,
Shaan Hurley (tired)

AutoCAD 2004 Beta Site in Press Release

Portland Firm Cuts Production Time with Autodesk 2004 Tools

Just a snippet of the press release:
"“AutoCAD 2004 is the most worthwhile AutoCAD upgrade I’ve seen,” said Jeff Reaves, president of Group Mackenzie. “The product is already making us more productive by decreasing our production time and allowing us more time to design. This makes us competitive and is extremely valuable to our customers.”

“Quick and Simple Implementation with Unexpected Cost Savings
Group Mackenzie, an active participant in the AutoCAD 2004 Beta Program, was instrumental in providing feedback that ultimately made AutoCAD 2004 into an award-winning application. Company CAD and IT Manager, Rusty Gesner, a registered architect, is one of the original AutoCAD customers, using the software for nearly 20 years. At first, he was leery of an upgrade, yet quick to purchase and implement 21 seats of AutoCAD 2004 across his firm after being the most active participant in the AutoCAD 2004 Beta Program, seeing that the new features offered tremendous time savings without the steep learning curve typically associated with software upgrades.
Within the first nine months of using the product, Group Mackenzie began using the fast, robust AutoCAD 2004 software on more than 8,000 drawings in more than 200 projects.”

Another New Photo Coming

I am getting some nice people to come and take photos for a potentially new image in the upper left. Thank you for all of the feedback. I received over 40 emails and private discussion groups posts. The favorite appeared to be photo number 2.

Cheers,
-Shaan

Blog......hmmm CAD...hrmmm

I can forsee a CAD Manager or lead designer using a Blog (Web Log) to update members on their team as well as thier company of current CAD standards and guidelines and staffing as well as any other tips, tuts, and solutions. You could use it like many used the CAD Manager Bulletin portion of the old AutoCAD Today.

It is a really nice way to update people, and fun too.

Cheers,
-Shaan

Happy 8th Anniversary

On this day 8 years ago Microsoft launched Windows 95. Luckily it is mostly gone from machines now. ;-)

Thank You For the Feedback

I want to thank everyone for all of the feedback I have recieved so far on the photo. The coffee'd up techno geek look in the upper left is the current photo and will be the photo for the time being. This Blog is still young and finding a sense of purpose and topics. The Blog will develop over the next month until it launches to all Autodesk subscription customers.

Ideas and request for feedback:

What would you like or expect to see me discuss and post about?

* AutoCAD Technical Tips -n- Tricks
* Answer to your selected technical questions
* Posted ideas on future product features for consideration and feedback
* What is going on at Autodesk
* Autodesk University updates
* Links to CAD related sites and info of interest
* Introduce deskers behind the scenes. See and meet the people that create the product you use.

Cheers,
-Shaan

Getting the feel for this Blog

Blogs (Weblogs) are a fun and informative technology. I hope to make this Blog one of interest to many fellow AutoCAD users. I plan on posting tips & tricks, announcements, and future product design feedback.

I will be joined from time to time by two of the best in AutoCAD and they are Lynn Allen and Heidi Hewett as well as others in my AutoCAD team.

About Me:
I am a Technical Marketing Manager for the AutoCAD group and also manage most of the beta programs for Autodesk at http://betaprograms.autodesk.com. I am a current user of AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor and 3D Studio Max. I used some of these products as a former customer. I was previously a mechanical designer involved in various large projects before joining Autodesk in January of 1998. Some of the projects in my past are AISC major steel bridges, hydroelectric, large heat exchangers and ASME pressure vessels. I was a featured "bleeding edge" user during the R14 Design Your World Live broadcast in May 1997, and the R14 demo CD-ROM. You may also see me at all hours in the Autodesk discussion groups http://discussion.autodesk.com assisting fellow users with technical issues as well as participating in some of the humorous threads.
